Meester is probably most well-known for portraying, as I mentioned before, Blair Waldorf on my favorite television show, Gossip Girl. Since then, she has been in a few films, and during her time on the show, she signed with Universal Music Group. Through that label, she released three singles: “Your Love’s A Drug,” “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home),” and “Somebody to Love feat. Robin Thicke.”
"Tell your faves to step aside because queen Leighton is here to reign. In case you only knew her from Gossip Girl, here's some background: she used to sing EDM-infused pop which was GREAT but her debut album never saw the light of day because Universal Music Group screwed her over... what a mistake, but who cares, now she's here to slay indie and I am LIVING for it! Heartstrings is so hauntingly perfect and I'm 150% sure the rest of the album will deliver just as much if not more. I am so ready."
More on the “Heartstrings” music video: Leighton is wonderfully adorable. Her smile is contagious, but in the more serious parts of the song, you can really feel her emotion. She’s the perfect combination of porcelain doll and masterful actress.
One critique that I do have of the young songstress is that I can hear a lot of editing in her music. Though the lyrics are interesting, I want to hear more of Leighton’s raw, natural voice. Honestly, I’m a fan of stripped-down music in the first place. Too much editing tends to turn me off, though I don’t think that Leighton went too far to the extreme.
Despite the fact that Leighton has made a name for herself as an actress, I think Heartstrings has shown the world that the girl has pipes too. Give her nine-track album a listen and tell me what you think. Happy kommenting :)
