Kids of my generation all remember Lizzie McGuire and its star, Hilary Duff. She continues to be an excellent role model for people my age unlike some other Disney stars, who have gone off the deep end.
Since she got married and had a son, she had taken a break from stardom and had become your everyday mom except, she’s Hilary Duff. She has successfully stayed out of the media’s ridiculous rumors, but it is confirmed that she has separated from her husband. However, she is also coming back to the music scene after six years.
Her debut album was entitled Metamorphosis and came out in 2003 along with her Christmas album, Santa Claus Lane. She did showcase her vocal chords previously in Lizzie McGuire albums both for the show (in 2002) and the movie, which came out in 2003 as well. After that, she released a self-entitled album in 2004. During this time, she was also starring in movies such as Cheaper by the Dozen, and of course, I have to mention that she played movie star Olivia Burke on the one and only Gossip Girl. We also can’t forget that she and her sister, Haylie Duff, starred in Material Girls. In 2005, she released Most Wanted, which may be my favorite Duff album. Two years later, Dignity, an album taunting celebrities for their inappropriate behavior, hit the charts, and in 2008, Duff compiled a best hits album.
She came out with her first new single since then entitled “Chasing the Sun” on July 29th along with its music video. I actually really liked the video, now on Vevo and to the right (it’s only a link because of Vevo rights), because it showed Duff in an office daydreaming about being on the beach with a hot surfer that she saw in a magazine.
Then, she released “All About You” yesterday. Personally, I prefer this track to Duff’s other new single, but that’s just me. This song is the classic “I like you, but do you like me?” song, and I think that Duff pulls it off really well. Again, she’s mastered having a slightly new sound but still preserving the voice that we all fell in love with eleven years ago. Plus, it’s super catchy and fun. It’s easy to jam out to in the car.
The entire album does not have a release date that I can find, but it is said to have a more mature sound. She even worked with Ed Sheeran on a track, and that makes me excited to hear what she has in store for us. I never would have imagined her working with an artist like him, so it makes me think about what this “new sound” is.
I know that I’ve always looked up to Hilary Duff, whether it was on Lizzie McGuire, through her multiple albums, or in her several films. I think that she’s been an excellent role model, and I believe that she has some real talent. Let me know what you think and give her tracks a listen. Happy kommenting :)
