The trilogy, which is now a phenomenon, was excellent. In fact, its author, Veronica Roth was number six on my top 10 yesterday. She may have even been lower if I hadn’t fallen in love with so many books recently.
Anyway, the movie premiered in March, and though it didn’t follow the book perfectly, I actually really enjoyed it. Many people were upset about the book to movie connection, but honestly, it didn’t really bother me that much. That’s actually really surprising considering how I usually react when a movie messes up a book.
I think that the reason that I wasn’t upset about the differences was because personally, I think that the acting was spectacular. Ansel Elgort and Shailenne Woodley began their chemistry that fueled The Fault In Our Stars during the film though they were brother and sister. Who knew that two siblings from a futuristic society would become a modern day cancer patient couple?
Not only that, but the handsome Theo James enhanced the visual appeal of the movie, and he also fit the role of Four perfectly. He was perfect parts rude, charming, and mysterious. He and Shailenne had amazing chemistry as well, and I’m excited to see the upcoming movies to watch their relationship evolve.
Plus, honestly, the plot is so outlandish that I was enchanted by seeing it on-screen. I mean, people jumping off trains and what not is pretty exciting. I kind of feel that way about any book turned movie though. You visualize something in your head obviously as you read, but to see the entire world come to life is crazy awesome.
The DVD came out on August 5th, but I just bought it today like I said before. As I type, I’m rewatching the film, and I think I’m just as in love with it as I was the first time. Granted, I’m slightly distracted by lack of sleep and driving excitement, but I really do think it’s an excellent movie.
Just now, I’m realizing that I also really enjoy the soundtrack. There are some really interesting songs included in the movie, and I don’t think that I noticed that the first time.
