I’ve talked before about the tiny bombshell who has taken the pop world by storm, and it seems that as time goes on, the bigger of a supernova she becomes. Grande threatens to “Break Your Heart Right Back,” and begs a certain someone for “Just a Piece of Your Heart” through thoughtful lyrics and tracks that make you want to dance.
Some of her songs feature artists like Zedd, Big Sean, Cashmere Cat, Childish Gambino, A$AP Ferg, The Weeknd, Jessie J, Nikki Minaj, and Iggy Azalea. I think she did an excellent job picking a mix of well-known artists and new faces to make her album uniquely hers.
This summer, she released her first single off the album called “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea, which turned into what you all voted your favorite summer tune in my first ever poll. After filming a music video that ultimately won a VMA, she began hinting on a full album to follow the single, released the album artwork, and opened a preorder on iTunes.
Since my car is fourteen years old, it doesn’t have an iPod jack, so yesterday, I got up early and put Ariana’s new album on a CD so I could listen to it ASAP. I jammed along to the new tunes on the way to school, and honestly, I can’t say that I don’t like any of the songs. I like some more than others, of course, but I genuinely like all her music. While there are dance beats reminiscent of Ariana’s first album, Yours Truly, she has a more mature R&B sound in her newest work. You can definitely tell that she’s getting more and more comfortable in her own skin and style of music. Yet, I think the lyrics are wonderfully smart and relatable unlike some other R&B albums.
Personally, I think that Grande is nowhere near at the top of her career since she's a mere 21 years old, and I just can’t imagine what she’s going to pull out of her vocal chords next. It’s hard to believe that the superstar was once just a supporting character on a Nickelodeon TV show. I think the music industry has needed an Ariana Grande for a while now, and I’m glad that she finally came. Happy kommenting :)
