First of all, you must plan these things. If you invite a ton of people to your house for dinner, you don’t want to be throwing something together the day of. Make a list of what you’re making and cook stuff beforehand so that you’re not panicking five minutes before everyone arrives.
What’s most important is that you don’t get anything on your dress because that would be a pretty bad start to your big night. This might limit your choices a bit. For example, if you’re wearing a white dress, you should probably avoid anything with red sauce.
Next, it should be easy to eat. Personally, I’m very self-conscious while eating, so this point is very important to me. You don’t want a ton of finger food because your nails, and you don’t want to have to unattractively bit a chicken leg. You’re going to be talking to friends and joking around during the meal, so you don’t want to have to focus on how you’re going to cut your food.
Plus, you want to keep it light. After all, you’re going to be dancing all night, so you don’t want to eat a huge meal before you make your grand entrance. I would stick to something closer to a salad than lasagna or something.
On the more fun side of things, you should pick a theme for your meal. This year, my school’s homecoming is Hollywood-themed, so our meal could potentially be one for starlets. The theme makes the meal more fun to plan and eat!
My fourth and final tip is to have something for everyone. If you’re going to the dance with a big group of friends, odds are there will be a few picky people in the bunch. Offer some sort of meat, a salad, fruit, and other foods you know your friends will like.
Hope that you get some ideas for the day’s menu! Happy kommenting :)
