Let’s be honest. I’m not sure if I really believe that some woman from Long Island can connect herself to dead people, but it seems that America has fallen for Theresa Caputo.
Last night was the two-part season premiere, and it followed Theresa on a vacation to Las Vegas. The show is really, really deep because I mean, it’s about talking to spirits and the people they left behind. Actually, I can only watch an episode at a time because of how emotional it is.
Theresa calls herself a “medium,” which implies that she can talk to the dead. She is always “reading” someone, which means that she connects to spirits of the people around her. She does both individual and group readings on the show, and many of them become very eventful.
The show most definitely makes it look like Theresa has never met any of these people, but it is reality television. So, my point is that this could easily all be staged. Many, many people claim that she is for real, but I’m really not sure about her “powers.” Plus, there are always pictures of the loved one, so Theresa technically could have seen them previous to meeting each particular subject. Yet, everyone claims that there was no way she could have ever known these things. It’s actually very confusing when you think about it.
Related to the actual show, the Caputo family is your typical Long Island family. Theresa and her husband, Larry, have two children, who are college age. Victoria and Larry Jr. still live at home, so they are still featured on the show. Though the family appreciates Theresa’s gift, they often get annoyed when she approaches random people.
In the premiere, Theresa traveled throughout Las Vegas to read various people. She even went to a bachelorette’s party. Honestly, I’m not sure I would want to connect to loved ones on a day that is supposed to be so happy and carefree. She also visited a woman who lost her mother and another woman who lost her husband recently. A drag queen even made an appearance, and a friend of his had lost a brother-like figure. While visiting a historic rock, Theresa connected with ancient people, especially children.
Again, the show is extremely emotional, and I think the premiere was especially so. I actually shed a tear a couple times because of how deep the readings became. Of course, losing anyone is extremely hard, but most of these people have lost people through tragedies. What do you think about Theresa’s gift? Fact or fiction? I know that a lot of people have special experiences in their lives that make them believe in the mediums, so I’m curious to see what you think.
