Tip number one: be yourself. You should never put on something that doesn’t feel right to you. Sure, it may have looked great on someone else, but it doesn’t mean that it works for you. Overall, you have to be comfortable. I’m not talking sweatpants comfortable, but instead, comfortable in your own skin. If it feels right to you, odds are that it will look good to everyone else.
Tip number two: buy a maxi dress. Not only are the long dresses in style right now, but they’re comfortable and easy to wear. There a million different styles and fabrics that can be used. Maxi dresses can end up being really casual, or they can air on the formal side. You don’t have to worry about the dress riding up or anything (which is my favorite part), but you get the comfort of not having to wear pants. It sounds strange, but I know that girls know what I mean.
Tip number three: have a hair game plan. Trust me, I am totally aware of long hair problems considering my brown locks are over halfway down my back, and sometimes, I just don’t want to wear it down. Plus, there’s the eternal struggle of whether or not to straighten it. Therefore, learn how to do different braids, have a ponytail holder ready, or be able to whip out some bobby pins. There’s nothing wrong with a messy bun here or there!
Tip number four: be creative. This goes for not only getting dressed, but going shopping as well. Buy something edgy or fun that will brighten up an outfit. Bright colors, unique patterns, and interesting fabrics will be attention-grabbing. Or, pair things you already have to make a new outfit that you haven’t tried before. Let’s be honest, there’s almost nothing better for a girl than getting a compliment on what she’s wearing. It’s like an instant confidence boost.
Tip number five: mind the shoes. For me, shoes are one of my favorite parts of an outfit. In my opinion, the shoe can make or break your look. For instance, don’t wear Ugg boots with a skirt. That’s a break. On the other hand, I saw someone wearing a cute blue and white dress that she paired with yellow flats. Though it sounds mix-and-matched, it worked ridiculously well. I just feel like we forget our feet sometimes.
Tip number six: don’t fear casual. I know I most definitely have this problem, but honestly, you go to school to learn, so if you’re not feeling the style thing that day, don’t do it! Honestly, there are so many other things to worry about in life. There’s no reason to push yourself into a trendy outfit every day, and bumming it isn't a problem. Just don’t do the same on your homework.
Tip number seven: learn how to use jewelry. Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought that something was missing? I’m willing to bet that that something was either a bracelet, a necklace, or the right earrings. Once you put one of those options on, everything just seems to click in my opinion. Francesca’s, which is now in most malls, has awesome jewelry, and there are often sales. Try out some bangles or a big costume-jewelry necklace.
Tip number eight: find some patterned bottoms. I don’t know why most people seem to think that the pattern always belongs on the top. Patterned shorts are so cute and can easily be paired with a solid top. Last year, patterned jeans were pretty big, and though I don’t understand why they were painted with the British flag, I think they’re a good choice.
Tip number nine: easy on the make-up. Personally, I’m a big fan of less is more when it comes to make-up. I like to keep eye shadow semi-neutral (browns and tans), and I actually prefer not to use eyeliner. However, everything in moderation is okay. For example, smoky eyes are absolutely beautiful when done correctly, and when the eyeliner game is on point, everything else seems to fall into place.
Tip number ten: scarves. One of my favorite accessories is the scarf. Personally, I prefer infinity scarves because they’re easy to use, but www.scarves.net gives you a million and three ways to tie a normal scarf. I've used it on multiple occasions to get a scarf just right. I also suggest not confining scarves to winter because a summer scarf can be a wonderful thing.
Tip number eleven: have fun. Shopping and dressing should not stress you out. After all, you’re doing these things for you and only you. If style doesn’t make you happy, don’t worry about it! Just match anything up to a jean or black bottom, and you’re set to go! Pick out pieces that make you smile or have memories of a fun vacation. Just don't stress!
I hope you learned something through my eleven style tips for the year, and have a marvelous time at school (which includes checking out the site afterwards every day). Happy kommenting :)
