The five members of One Direction, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, auditioned as individuals on the hit British show, The X-Factor. When all five were eliminated after the post-audition round, they were put together to make a group. What are the odds that all five boys would audition, be eliminated, and somehow be mashed up together? Who would have thought that this group, innocently called One Direction, would become such a sensation?
The group released three successful albums, and honestly, it seems that its popularity is only growing. Because the boys have expanded themselves from catchy pop music to folk and rock tunes in Midnight Memories, they appeal to tons of people. In fact, people who are “not fans” have enjoyed the newly released fourth album greatly.
FOUR, named that for some unknown reason, hit iTunes and stores early Monday and was number one in no time. Since the group has three number ones from the past, it was no surprise that this album was just as successful. With an impressive track list, inventive rhythms, and fairly impressive vocals, I was immediately a fan. Of course, I had pre-ordered the album, so I had heard all the early releases and loved them.
This video is a part of FOUR, and I claim no ownership to it.
Personally, my favorite tracks on the album are “Steal My Girl,” “Fool’s Gold,” “Night Changes,” “Illusion,” and “Act My Age.” However, it was difficult to just pick a few. Actually, I think I like them all, which is very strange for me. Usually, there are a couple songs that I always skip… no matter who the album is by.
One thing that defines this album in comparison to some other One Direction albums is that the lyrics are better written than usual. Sure, there were some lovely lines in the tunes of Up All Night, Take Me Home, and Midnight Memories, but the FOUR lyrics are some of my favorites. Lines like “All the rest of my crimes don’t come close to the look on your face when I let you go” and “Yeah, I’ve let you use me from the day that we first met” get you thinking. In case you couldn’t tell, song lyrics are some of my favorite things in the world, and meaningful song lyrics are literally my favorite thing in the world.
The One Direction album is a wonderful almost conclusion to this year’s music, and I think the boys are headed towards even more success. I mean, let’s be honest, when will attractive British men singing get old? Happy kommenting :)
